Cute little owl!

It's me, again!  I rarely do the whole blog thing but everyone was so nice about wanting directions for my little owl that I figured this would be a good place to put it!  Thanks to everyone who had nice things to say!

Files used:

Pick a Pumpkin kit from svgcuts.com - Little Orange Pumpkin file (body and head)
Night Owls kit from myscrapchick.com - Mrs. Owl file (wings and "horns")
Cute owl file from Scrappin' by Kris (eyes)
Triangle Rounded from the ecal library - Basic Shapes folder (beak)
Flower from the ecal library - Newborn folder (top of head)

Assembly:

1. You will use the Little Orange Pumpkin file from the Pick a Pumpkin kit to make the body and head for the owl.  Make one of the pumpkins at the regular size (11 inches wide) for the head.  For the body, keep the proportions and resize the pumpkin and accents to 12.821" wide.  You will have to turn it to fit on the mat.  Before closing up the pumpkin, I put some rice inside to weigh it down and make it a little more stable, but this is optional.
2. Push in the bottom of the body pumpkin to give it a flatter bottom.  This is also optional; it just gives it a little more stability.

(I got a little ahead of myself and glued the bottom last so the tabs are on the outside and not on the inside but no one will see the bottom, so I declare it to be an acceptable mistake!)
At this point you can go ahead and glue the accent pieces to the pumpkins.

3. I used a pick to pop up the top of the head pumpkin just to make it a little more rounded.  It's going to get covered up in the end, so it's optional.

4. Glue the head to the body.  I used hot glue since the two pieces don't fit flat against each other.  Off center the two pieces when you glue them together.  (See picture below.)

5. For the wings, use the Night Owls kit and open Night Owls > SVG > NightOwlCOLORS > MrsOwl > brown.  Break this file apart.  Delete the 3 pieces and leave the wings and group those two together in that position (this will make the measurements correct).  Size this to 5.563" X 8.594".  Now you can break them apart and place them better on the mat to cut.

 6.  For the "horns", open Night Owls > SVG > NightOwlCOLORS > MrsOwl > dark brown.  Size it to 3.150" X 1.837" and then delete the round shape.

7.  For the eyes, use the Cute Owl file sized at 9.584" X 5.649" (this should be the size it is when it opens).  Break it apart and delete the two body parts leaving only the eyes.  I made the eyes look a little different than they do in the original Cute Owl svg by switching the white parts to go on the opposite sides but they are cute either way.

The one on the left has the whites of the eyes switched, the one on the right is how it will look if you use the eyes as they look in the original file.

8.  The beak and the top of the head are files from the ecal library.  Cut the Triangle Rounded from the folder called Basic Shapes sized to .860" X .659".  Open the Flower from the folder called Newborn, break it apart and delete the circle from the middle.  Cut 6 of them at the following sizes and glue together.
2.184" X 2.184"
1.930" X 1.930"
1.549" X 1.549"
1.125" X 1.125"
.914" X .914"
.660" X .660"

9. Glue everything on and embellish and you're done!

I hope this helps for you to make your own little owl...writing out instructions is a lot harder than I thought it would be!    It stands about 6 inches tall using the dimensions that I did, but you can use the larger pumpkins from the Pick a Pumpkin file to make an even bigger one.  Thanks for reading and feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Jenn :)
